2008 in review:
We'd like to thank all of our clients and friends for a great 2008 and we're looking forward to an even better 2009!
Longtime clients Todd and Pam Bailey had an eventful year, with Pam earning the RMQHA Year End High Point in Amateur Working Cowhorse and finishing 3rd in the NRCHA North Central Region and 6th in the nation on her good 11 year old mare, Tsunami Lena. Pam and 'Sue' also brought home a Co-Reserve Championship in the Novice Non Pro Bridle from the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity! Todd and Pam capped off their big time in Reno by purchasing a pair of fancy two year olds at the 2008 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Select Sale. Watch for Lightin Dynamite and CD Lights Mate at the futurities this coming fall.
Congratulations to Don Stewart and Hickorys Lil Playboy, aka 'Scoobie', on their impressive 3rd place win in the Amateur Working Cowhorse at the 2008 AQHA Select World Show. Don and Scoobie finished in the top 10 regionally in NRCHA standings, and we're excited to see this team again in 2009. A congratulations also on Don and Tammy's purchase of 'Opie', a two year old that Don will be bringing along for the aged events.
Susan Stolz and her talented gelding Pancho Lena accomplished much in their first year together, earning 3rd place in the 2008 NRCHA final national standings in Non Pro Limited. This team also captured 3rd place in the NRCHA North Central Region 5K Limited Non Pro, and a Reserve Championship in the Non Pro Limited! Congratulations on a great first season, Susan.
Ted and Cheryl Swanson worked very hard in 2008 with multiple mounts between them. The Swanson's efforts paid off with many regional placings, and Cheryl earned a 4th place finish nationally in NRCHA Non Pro Limited. Ted and his new horse LM Typical Shadow collected an NRCHA North Central Region Non Pro Hackamore 5th place, and finished 3rd in the CRCA Non Pro Hackamore standings. Congratulations to Cheryl on her Non Pro Limited Championship at the Blue Sky Turkey Day show on Burnt Whiskey Doc, aka 'Louie'! Cheryl and Louie finished the season in 3rd and 7th regionally in Non Pro Limited and 5K Non Pro Limited respectively, and took home two beautiful Reserve Championship year end buckles for the same divisions from the Colorado Reined Cowhorse Association. Cheryl also piloted her homegrown gelding 'Toby' to a respectable 24th place finish in the competitive 5K Non Pro Limited. Congratulation to Cheryl and Ted on their purchase of Rio Time - watch for them in 2009!
Many J & J Cook Performance Horses clients placed in the NRCHA North Central region rankings in 2008. In the $5K Non Pro Limited, these include Susan Stolz and Pancho Lena (3rd), Cheryl Swanson and Burnt Whiskey Doc (7th), Sheri Aaberg and WR Peppys Smart Mate (13th), Jennifer Ostenson and Mister N Dandy (21st) and Cheryl Swanson on Mannitoba Reyn.
In the Non Pro Limited, regional placings were Susan Stolz and Pancho Lena (Reserve Champion), Cheryl Swanson and Burnt Whiskey Doc (3rd), Denise Kramlich and Buggins Big Boy (11th), Jennifer Ostenson and Mister N Dandy (14th) , and Sheri Aaberg and WR Peppys Smart Mate (15th). Congratulations to all our clients on their 2008 successes both in and out of the show pen!
Jim Cook and Todd & Pam Bailey's good filly, Misters Miss Remedy, won the Colorado Owner/Rider division of the futurity at the Colorado Reined Cowhorse Assn Fall Futurity & Horse Show. This talented duo also won the Wyoming Reined Cowhorse Assn Open Futurity and the Blue Sky Turkey Day Show's Open Futurity division. Look for this pair in the derbies in 2009! Jim also had a successful year on his own Von Frecklenic, earning an 11th place finish in the NRCHA North Central Region in the Open Hackamore and a 3rd place finish in the CRCA Open Derby year end standings.
Jill Cook was the 2008 NRCHA North Central Limited Open Bridle Reserve Champion on Pam Bailey's dynamite mare Tsunami Lena, also placing 9th on Jennifer Ostenson's Mister N Dandy. Jill and Tsunami Lena also finished 8th in the nation in the Limited Open Bridle at year's end.
We were pleased to host the 2008 CRCA sponsored clinic with Jon Roeser in 2008. Jon has been with us before and his insight and teaching style are always appreciated. The clinic was May 10-11, 2008, at our arena in Erie, Colorado. Working on herd, reined and fence work with Jon is always enlightening.
Spring 2006:
We are looking forward to hosting a clinic with NRCHA & AQHA multiple champion Sandy Collier on May 27th & 28th, 2006. See more about Sandy and her accomplishments on www.SandyCollier.com.
We will also be hosting a clinic with Don Murphy around the end of July or first part of August. The dates wil be posted as soon as they are available.It's been a busy show season already, and we would like to welcome Ann Mackey and Dots Boomernic to the Youth ranks in Reining and Youth Limited Cowhorse in 2006. Ann and 'Boomer' have been working hard in 2005 to get ready to start showing. She has already enoyed some success in 2005 in the reining pen, winning the Ft. Collins Show In The Snow 18 & Under Reining class and placing 2nd in an earlier reining class at a Open Show in Longmont, CO.
We welcome Kayla Irby into the Non Pro ranks in 2006 and she started the year off with a bang on her new horse Smokescreen Image, winning the 2006 Gold Rush Circuit in Amateur Cowhorse. We look forward to seeing Kayla and Image have a great year!
Kelsey Irby has had a big start in 2006, placing 6th at the NRCHA World Show in Novice Non Pro Bridle and is the current NRCHA World Champion in Youth Bridle. As she's retired her mount Capitol Call, look for Kelsey during the remainder of 2006 on her two new young show horses.
DeDe Dickinson and her new horse Gees A Shining Star are coming on strong in 2006, placing 3rd in the Non Pro Spectacular at the Sandhills Reinined Cowhorse Association Derby. Congratulations also to Pam Bailey on placing 2nd and 3rd in Amateur Working Cowhorse at the Bellringer Circuit on her mare Tsunami Lena. Pam is on her way to qualifying for the AQHA World Show in Amateur Working Cowhorse and for the NRCHA World Show in Novice Non Pro Bridle and Non Pro Bridle.
Congratulations to Mark Johnson and Smart Smokin Linda for their recent back-to-back wins in Amateur Working Cowhorse at the Colorado Gold Circuit in Pueblo, CO. Way to go, Mark and 'Grace'!
Congratulations to Jim Cook for winning the 2006 Gold Rush Circuit Championship in Open Cowhorse riding Miss Royale Rooster. Jim also captured the Open Bridle Spectacular Championship at the Sandhills Reined Cowhorse Association Derby riding Gees A Shining Star, finishing 4th in the Open Derby on Miss Royale Rooster. Jill Cook was Reserve Champion in the Open Bridle Spectacular at the SRCHA Derby on Lu Lu Letters and has qualified 2 horses for the AQHA World Show in Senior Working Cowhorse.
Winter 2005:
It's been a busy year at the horse shows! Thank you to all of our customers and friends for their support in 2005.
Congratulations to Pam Bailey and her mare Tsunami Lena. This new pair captured the Wyoming Reined Cowhorse Association's Non Pro Bridle Championship. Congratulations also to DeDe Dickinson on her purchase of Gees A Shining Star (Mia). Due to an injury this mare was not shown this fall, but we expect good things from the pair in 2006.
Congratulations to Amber Bridges on her purchase of Diggers Smoking Gun. We look forward to seeing you in the show pen on this talented horse.
Congratulations to Kelsey Irby, the 2005 Colorado Reined Cowhorse Association's Year End Youth Bridle Champion. Kelsey also had two horses in the Top 10 at the AQHA Youth World Show this year. Nice job!

In the Open ranks, Jill Cook finished 2005 as the NRCHA North Central Region Reserve Champion in Open Bridle and Limited Open Bridle on her good mare Lu Lu Letters. She was also the RMQHA Year-End Open Working Cowhorse Champion. To add to a great year, the two traveled to Oklahoma for an exciting Top Ten finish in the Senior Working Cowhorse Finals at the AQHA World Show.
Jim Cook also had a great summer and fall, capturing the 2005 NRCHA North Central Region Open and Limited Open Hackamore Reserve Champion title riding Newt White's Miss Royale Rooster. Jim was the CRCA Year-End Open and Limited Open Hackamore Champion, and with Star Nic Spyderman was the Sandhills Reined Cowhorse Association Fall Show Open Stallion Stakes Derby Champion.
Spring 2005:
The new show season is upon us and we're looking forward to another great year training and showing reiners and working cowhorses. We have several promising prospects coming up and it's exciting to see new foals on the ground.
Congratulations go to Ron and Paula Foland on their purchase of Peponitas Lady Bug. We wish you much success with her in the cutting pen!Congratulations also to Chris Buegnig on her purchase of Spookin In Time. We know you will have fun with this nice mare in California.
Congratulations to the Mackey family on their purchase of Dots Boomernic, and we welcome Anne to the Youth ranks! This young rider is enthusiastic about reining and has been helping work the cattle too...

Winter 2004:
2004 saw several newcomers to the show barn at J & J Cook Performance Horses, and a few were new to the sport of reined cow horse itself!
Congratulations go to Denise Kramlich and her nice mare, Two Eyed Princess, on a successful first year of showing in reined cow horse... they finished 2004 as CRCA Year End High Point Non Pro Limited Champions! Way to go, Denise!
Jenn Erickson and her horse, Funs Tiviolena, both entered the cow horse show pen for the first time in 2004 and won the Sandhills RCHA Novice Rancher class Nebraska this fall. Jenn has been an avid reiner for several years and was excited to try reined cow horse... we can confirm that she is hooked!
DeDe Dickinson and her super cow horse, Dry Shaniko, had a great year, finishing as the RMQHA Amateur Working Cowhorse Champion. 'Shaniko' earned both Open and Amateur Superiors in Working Cowhorse this year and finished 7th in the nation in AQHA Amateur Working Cowhorse. They were just as competitive in the NRCHA, capturing the NRCHA North Central Region Novice Non Pro Bridle Championship and finishing as regional Reserve Champions in Non Pro Bridle. Congratulations, DeDe, you've worked hard!
Kayla, Kelsey and Kolton Irby had many successes in 2004, always making their presence known in the tough Youth division of reined cow horse events. These two sisters and their brother often share their horses and encourage each other in and out of the show pen. Riding Okie Pokie Letters, Kayla Irby captured 5th place in Youth Bridle at the prestigious NRCHA World Show, with Kelsey right behind in 6th on Capitol Call. At the same show, their third horse, Capitol Trouble, was 9th in Youth Bridle with Kayla. Kolton Irby finished 4th in the Youth Limited with Capitol Trouble as well. Kelsey Irby and Capitol Call were the RMQHA Year End Youth Working Cowhorse Champions, and Kayla was the Reserve Champion in the same division on Okie Pokie Letters. This was just the culmination of a year of titles and championships for the group!
In the Open division, Jill Cook and her good mare Lu Lu Letters won the NRCHA North Central Region Championship in Limited Open Bridle and finished 3rd in the competitive Open Bridle. Jill and 'LuLu' qualified for the NRCHA World Show in Stephenville in both divisions as well. Locally, the duo earned the CRCA Year End High Point Championship in Open Bridle and Limited Open Bridle and won the CRCA Shoot Out at the final show of the year. They also finished as the RMQHA High Point Championship in Open Working Cowhorse and qualified for the AQHA World Show. This good mare will have a place in the breeding shed at J & J Cook Performance Horses when she's finished her career as a show horse.
