Out of the ordinary, Jim and Jill Cook are both Colorado natives. Jim was born in Glenwood Springs and raised on a ranch in western Colorado.

Jim graduated from Colorado State University in 1973 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. By 1973, he owned and operated his own practice.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed training and showing his own horses. After selling his Veterinary practice in 1999, he was able to devote more time to training and showing, primarily reined cow horse, and in 2003 he decided to give up his Non Pro status and start training for the public.

Jill was born and raised on the Colorado front range. She attended Lamar Community College's Equine Training and Management program, graduating in 1987. Jill worked for a couple of trainers and as a Veterinary Assistant before starting her own training business in 1995.

Jim and Jill were both very involved in the formation of what is now the Colorado Reined Cowhorse Association. Jim is a past President and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Jill is the current CRCA President.

Building on their previous experiences in the horse industry, in 2003 Jim and Jill formed J & J Cook Performance Horses, LLC, specializing in producing top reined cow horses and reining horses. They enjoy showing in NRCHA, NRHA and NCHA events and have earned several significant year-end titles, most recently including 2005 AQHA World Show Sr. Cowhorse Top Ten Finalist, 2006 NRCHA World Show Limited Open Bridle Finalist-3rd & 4th (Jill), 2005 NRCHA North Central Region Open Two-Rein Championship and 2006 CRCA Open Hackamore Championship (Jim). Both feel that their dynamic, supportive relationship in and out of the show pen contributes to the success of their program.
